Overview
This qualification is primarily intended for electricians and other industry professionals who require up to date certification for their day-to-day work.
It equips candidates with a comprehensive understanding of the current IET Wiring Regulations, BS 7671:2018+A3:2024, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and legal requirements.
Upon successful completion, candidates will meet the qualification criteria recognized by the JIB for grading and re-grading purposes.
Learners must use the Brown book up until 15 October 2026, and the New Amendment Book 18th Edition BS7671 2018 + AMD4 2026 (Orange copy).
Key information
Candidates must hold relevant trade qualifications and/or have demonstrable experience within the electrical industry.
Ideally, applicants will have previously passed an earlier edition of BS 7671. However, we understand that work commitments may limit preparation time, and therefore applicants seeking the one-day option will be considered.
Formal qualifications may not be required, depending on experience.
This course is delivered over one day.
Throughout the day, you will learn how to interpret and apply the regulations in BS 7671:2018+A3:2024. This will support your understanding of compliance standards in domestic, commercial and industrial installations.
The course will include the following topics:
- Scope, object and fundamental principles
- Definitions
- Assessment of general characteristics and earthing arrangements
- Protection for safety, including basic and fault protection
- Selection and erection of equipment
- Inspection and testing
- Special installations and locations
- Functional requirements
- Use of appendices
The course covers all sections of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2018+A3:2024).
Candidates must already be familiar with using and referencing the Regulations book. Past paper questions will be reviewed during the morning and early afternoon sessions. The day will conclude with a formal examination identical in format to that of the three-day course.

Unlike the three-day version of this course, which is offered free of charge, the one-day course costs £250.
