Course Overview

Sports massage is specialized by being concerned with the application of massage techniques to specific body areas and to meet specific individual needs including rehabilitation following medical treatment for injury.

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for mature students with a good general education. You must have a positive attitude for the therapy and an ability to work as a member of a professional team. A well presented personal appearance is essential. Students should be 18 years and over.

Course Delivery

You will study:

  • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
  • Principles of health and fitness
  • Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
  • Professional practice in sports massage
  • Sports massage treatments

The course covers a range of practical assessments along with written assignments and external tests. A portfolio of evidence will be produced.

Candidates are expected to take part in work experience in sports massage for large scale events. This may include team or individual sporting events.

You will attend college for one evening per week between 6pm and 9pm for 34weeks. You will be expected to do a minimum of three hours per week of independent study.

Progression Opportunities

Upon successful completion you can progress onto a Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage working alongside medical personnel or sports massage practitioners. You could also progress into private practice, health and fitness centres and sports clubs. This course could lead to a degree in Sports Science.

Additional Information

Students have to attend a compulsory guidance session prior to enrolling. Students will be required to purchase their own kit / uniform (kit lists will be given at the guidance session)
