Hairdressing (L2 Diploma)

Course Overview

During this one year course you will develop your hairdressing skills and work on clients in a commercial salon environment. Areas of study include:

  • Health and safety
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Styling hair
  • Cut women's hair
  • Cut and style men's hair
  • Promote products and services
  • Working in the hair industry
  • Plaiting and twisting hair

    You will also complete qualifications in maths, English and employability.

Entry Requirements

Preferably a grade C in GCSE English and Maths or Level 2 Essential Skills Wales (ESW) communication and application of number. You will be required to complete an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy.

Course Delivery

You will attend college for 17 hours per week, spending your time in the salons and in the classroom. All assessments are continuous and include practical observations and written tests.

Progression Opportunities

A Level 3 NVQ Level Diploma in Hairdressing or employment in a salon as a stylist

Other related courses include Level 2 Beauty Specialist Techniques 

Additional Information

All students will be required to purchase a hairdressing kit, uniform etc. The total cost is approx. £350 and you might be able to access funding for this. 

Students who have completed the Level 1 course will be able to purchase a 'top up' kit of approx. £90 and a new uniform if required (again, students might be able to access funding for this).
