Canva for Creative Digital Content
Overview
This practical, full-day workshop is designed to help adults get confident using Canva for everyday work, projects, and ideas. It’s very much a have-a-go day rather than a sit-and-listen session, with plenty of time to explore, try things out, and ask questions without feeling rushed.
We’ll start with introductions and a gentle walkthrough of Canva’s layout and tools, before moving into templates, adding and editing elements, working with text, images and layouts, and making designs look clear and professional without overthinking them. As the day progresses, we’ll also look at some of Canva’s more useful features and how AI tools can help speed things up (without taking over your brain).
What Canva can be used for
Throughout the day, examples and activities will be based on realistic, everyday uses of Canva, such as:
- Presentations and slides that don’t look like they were thrown together at 11pm
- Posters and flyers for events, courses, campaigns or noticeboards
- Social media graphics and simple videos
- Handouts, worksheets and information packs
- Infographics to explain ideas or data clearly
- Certificates, invitations and promotional materials
- Basic branding such as logos, colour palettes and consistent layouts
- Simple documents for internal communication or public-facing information.
By the end of the day, participants will:
- Feel confident navigating Canva and setting up designs from scratch or from templates
- Know how to create and adapt designs for print, digital and screen-based use
- Be able to add, edit and organise elements, text and images effectively
- Understand which Canva features are genuinely helpful and when to use them
- Have a practical introduction to Canva’s AI tools and how they can save time
- Leave with tools and skills to use straight away.
Who this workshop is for?
This session is suitable for adults working in any sector who would benefit from creating clear, engaging visual content. That might include education, community organisations, charities, small businesses, events teams, administration roles, or anyone who regularly needs to share information visually.
No design background is needed. If you can use a mouse and are willing to click a few buttons and experiment, you’ll be absolutely fine. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop and, if possible, an idea or piece of content they’d like to work on during the day.
Key information
Knowledge of using digital tools.
This workshop is delivered face to face at our Jubilee Court campus and is fully hands-on. The focus is on practical learning, with participants working in Canva throughout the day rather than watching demonstrations.
The session introduces what Canva is, what it can be used for, and how to apply its tools and features effectively. Participants will explore templates, design tools, and useful features (including AI), and use these to create and develop their own designs during the session.
Support is available throughout, and participants will leave with increased confidence in using Canva and designs they can continue to use and adapt after the workshop.
