Drawing
Overview
Drawing is a fundamental starting point from which to develop further creative skills. Whether you’re a beginner, or have some experience, this course offers a supportive and inspiring space to develop your drawing skills and build confidence.
Using observational drawing you will be encouraged to develop an understanding of how to apply line, tone, and form. You will also explore expressive mark making techniques using a range of materials and media. Depending on availability, you may also have the opportunity to draw from a life model, further enhancing your ability to observe and render the human form.
Term one
Term one is aimed at beginners. Over the 10 weeks, you’ll be introduced to core drawing principles including proportion, line, tone, and shading.
Term two
Develop your drawing skills, focusing on observational drawing with increased emphasis on composition and the use of different media to explore personal style. Ideal for beginners and intermediate level.
Term three
Building on skills learnt in terms one and two, you will continue to refine your drawing skills and be encouraged to experiment with scale, materials, and more complex subject matter.
Each term is a standalone 10 week course. You can enrol for a single term or take all three for a more complete learning experience.
Course objectives:
- Develop confidence in drawing through guided practice and critique
- Understand and apply core drawing concepts such as proportion, composition, and value
- Improve visual observation and hand-eye coordination
- Explore different drawing materials and styles
- Foster individual creativity and a personal artistic voice.
Key information
No previous experience necessary, just an interest in the subject area. Learners would benefit from attending each term to build skills in preparation for term two and term three courses, although this is not a barrier to attending each term as a standalone course.
This course is delivered in the art and design studios at our Llwyn y Bryn Campus in Uplands, Swansea.
To achieve your qualification, you'll complete a practical booklet of outcomes throughout the course, which will then be assessed.
Each term lasts for 10 weeks. You'll find it beneficial to attend consecutive terms to progressively develop your skills, but you're also welcome to join any term as a complete standalone course.
Progression from any part-time course could offer a pathway to full-time courses in art and design. For adult learners considering a creative career, the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design course could provide a progression route for this.
All materials are provided. A studio fee of £10 is payable for each 10 week term.
All work can be collected on completion of booklet.
