Overview

This course will teach you how to plan and make a pair of trousers using a sewing machine.

On this course you will learn about different styes of opening and fastenings, inserting zips, making buttonholes and using elastication. This course allows you to choose between formal or casual styles and teaches you about fabric suitability.

You'll learn how to plan the making of your item to a professional standard, including hand-finishing techniques where needed for your final design.

You can choose to use a commercial pattern, bring along your own pattern design or use a pre-made block as the basis for your design.

Key information

This course is aimed at learners with some sewing and garment-making experience who want to expand their skills and learn new techniques.

You should already have basic machine-sewing skills and some experience making simple garments. New techniques, however, are fully demonstrated from the outset, so no prior knowledge of them is needed.

Face-to-face.

All materials will be provided initially to get you started. You will be expected to provide your own materials and equipment to product you own trouser project.

Learn how to combine your new sewing skills with other patchwork, appliqué or embroidery and sashiko so that you can design wardrobe essentials that are unique to your style.

You can also progress onto other clothing manufacture courses, make a lined garment or a quilted item.
