Top GP comes home to inspire a whole new generation of doctors

Britain’s top GP, Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, recently came home to Swansea for a whirlwind two-day trip during which she visited her old school and college where she took her first steps to success.

Prof Stokes-Lampard, Chair of the Royal College of GPs - the UK’s largest Medical Royal College representing 52,000 family doctors across the UK – met Year 10 children at Penyrheol Comprehensive School and students interested in studying medicine at Gower College Swansea in Gorseinon.

Chinese students enjoy College experience

Our International department has hosted a group of Chinese students and staff from Zhuzhou No. 8 Middle School.

The students attended classes in the mornings and then spent the afternoons participating in various social activities.

The visit culminated with a ‘cultural exchange’ event between Chinese and local students and a music/dance performance from some of our current cohort of International A Level students.

A new library for Tycoch Campus

Students and staff at Gower College Swansea have celebrated the official reopening of the library at the Tycoch campus.

The innovative learning space, which was opened by BBC Wales presenter and children’s author Lucy Owen, includes a collaborative area, an information learning technology studio, an acoustic pod and individual / group study spaces.

Over 100 Higher Education students from Gower College Swansea recently attended a special graduation event at the Great Hall on Swansea University's Bay Campus.

The students were celebrating achievement in subjects as diverse as accountancy, engineering, leadership and management, sports massage therapies, hair and beauty management, childcare, and health and social care services.

Another successful trip for our International department

Kieran Keogh, Gower College Swansea's International Manager, has returned from a successful two-week business trip to China where he visited a total of nine different cities, starting with Hong Kong and finishing in Beijing.

During the trip, Kieran met with a number of college representatives, interviewed prospective students, visited educational partners and held discussions with three investors about a Gower College Swansea-branded Chinese campus.

Students explore Welsh performance opportunities

A group of Welsh students studying performance-related courses at Gower College Swansea have visited the talented team who run a BA Performance course at the Welsh Centre for Performance at the Gate in Cardiff – a course which is taught through the medium of Welsh. 

Our students had an opportunity to take part in acting, dancing and singing workshops led by Eiry Thomas, Jackie Bristow, Elen Bowman and Eilir Owen Griffiths. It was a day packed full of fun and learning, all while promoting the Welsh language in this subject area.

Christmas comes to Llwyn y Bryn!

Level 2 Art and Design students at Llwyn y Bryn have been busy designing and painting festive penguins in readiness for the 2017 Waterfront Winterland.

The students were commissioned by the City and County of Swansea and their work will go on proud display at the Swansea ice rink from 17 November

This year’s sponsors include Heart Radio’s Jagger and Woody, the Swansea Grand Theatre, Admiral Insurance and the College’s very own superhero Bryn.

They are joining the College at an exciting time, with the imminent completion of renovation work and refurbishments set to enhance student facilities.
