Medical Science Level 3 - Applied Certificate/Diploma
Overview
Designed to be taken alongside A Levels. In this two year course, students will learn the fundamental concepts of biology and health. The course is broken into six units covering key scientific concepts. These units include:
- Unit 1: Human health and disease
- Unit 2: Physiological measurement techniques
- Unit 3: Medical science research methods
- Unit 4: Medicines and treatment of disease 49
- Unit 5: Clinical laboratory techniques
- Unit 6: Medical case study.
All units are taught by specialist lecturers. Two units are assessed using examinations; the remainder are assessed using assignments. Due to the focus on assessments over exams in this course there are many opportunities to undertake practical activities, which will help develop scientific skills.
Key information
- Seven GCSEs grade C or above
- Grade B in GCSE English Language and grade C in GCSE Mathematics and Science.
The course is assessed through practical work, assignments and external exams. Both internal and external assessments are graded A-U.
Completion and passing of this course equips you with scientific knowledge and understanding, as well as practical skills that would support progression to a range of job roles within health care and physiological sciences. When supported by other appropriate qualifications, the level 3 applied certificate/diploma in medical science will enable progression to higher education to a range of applied science programmes.
Learners who have not achieved a grade C in Mathematics and grade B in English Language will be required to resist them, alongside the Level 2 Applied Science course.
