It was time to welcome a new cohort of Welsh speakers as Gower College Swansea celebrated Diwrnod Croeso 2026 at the Gorseinon Campus.
The Diwrnod Croeso event allows staff and learners to enjoy a range of activities designed to get everyone using their Welsh as they get to know one another.
Special guests on the day included influencer Jess Martin who is studying a PhD in Applied Linguistics and Bilingualism at Swansea University and who shares her learning journey with her thousands of followers on social media.
Also in attendance were creators / writers / presenters Gwion Ifan and Jac Northfield, best known for their work on S4C's digital content brand Hansh, and for writing and starring in the comedy drama series Gwagle.
“Everyone had a great time getting to know each other, using their Welsh and having fun,” says the College’s Bilingualism Manager, Helen Humphreys. “Students really enjoyed the crazy golf, photobooth and team building activities with Urdd Gobaith Cymru. They were also able to meet Welsh speaking staff and hear more about Welsh gigs and workshops from Menter Iaith Abertawe. Not to mention the delicious free Dominos pizzas and cakes!
“It’s so important to build that sense of community and every year, Diwrnod Croeso gets the new term off to a fantastic start.
“Huge thanks to our special guests Jess, Gwion and Jac and to everyone who helped to make the day so memorable for our students at the start of a brand new academic year.”
Students were able to find out more information on Welsh at the College, how they can study through the medium of Welsh, become a Welsh Ambassador and take part in Welsh activities and events.
