Generation O ready to take to the stage

Students on Gower College Swansea’s specialist one year acting course are ready to take to the stage this week under the direction of actor Richard Mylan.

A familiar face on national television, Richard’s credits include Waterloo Road, Casualty, Doctors, My Family, Bad Girls and Silent Witness. He also has numerous theatre credits to his name, including Starlight Express in London’s West End.

Richard has worked with the students on a piece featuring the work of contemporary Welsh playwright Gary Owen, with performances taking place in the Arts Wing at the Grand Theatre on 15 and 16 February.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the students and staff at Gower College Swansea,” says Richard. “I’ve learned so much! All our hard work is really paying off and I’m proud to showcase Generation 0 at the Grand Theatre where my career began aged seven - my very first pay cheque with Northern Ballet Company, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s a special place and we are delighted to honour it with a special theatrical piece.”

Gower College Swansea is also delighted to announce that award winning composer/actor Simon Slater has also joined the Generation O company and will write some original music for the production. Simon’s CV includes over 300 original scores for theatre, film, radio and television. In the West End, he was an Olivier Award nominee for Constellations.

“Having Richard and Simon on board is an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students,” says Learning Area Manager Lucy Hartnoll. “Simon will not only compose original music to complement Generation O but has also very kindly offered to sound tech the show, which will give our Theatre Production students the incredible opportunity to meet him and observe him at work.”

“Richard has been working the students extremely hard and they have benefitted greatly from practicing in the professional environment of the Grand Theatre. Working with Richard has had a positive impact on their whole experience of this course and many have already had offers or recalls from leading drama colleges such as Arts Ed. London, LAMDA and the Bristol Old Vic.”

Gower College Swansea will continue to offer the specialist one year Acting course from September 2018 as well as an exciting new one year Cert. HE course in Musical Theatre – both courses will be partly delivered at Swansea Grand Theatre.  Please contact 01792 890700 for more information.
