Gower College Swansea - Be a part of it!

Gower College Swansea is an award-winning College that provides education and training to over 4,500 full time and 10,000 part time learners across the Swansea area and beyond.

The College offers almost 40 different A Level choices and a wide range of vocational subject areas for school leavers, in addition to apprenticeships and HE courses. It also provides business-to-business training to individuals and employers across the region, as well as tailored employability support.

The College is now looking for talented and dedicated people to join its Corporation Board.

As a Governor of Gower College Swansea, you would be helping the organisation to work towards both its short term goals and its long term strategic objectives.

You would play an active part in the life of the College, with an option to attend various events throughout the academic year such as the annual awards, open evenings and the HE graduation, where you could spend time with students and College staff.

The Governor role, which is a voluntary position, requires a time commitment of approximately four or five hours a month* i.e. reviewing reports and attending meetings. Much of the work of the Board has moved online recently and members are given support, including equipment, to maximise their contribution.

The College needs the involvement of all parts of the community, particularly those who are represented amongst its learners but underrepresented on the Board at present. On this occasion the College is particularly looking to appoint Governors with skills or experience in HR or Audit or who will help the Corporation Board to be more representative of our students and the communities that we serve.

The main criteria is commitment and an interest in further education and how it can enhance the lives of young people.

The College’s Board members really do make a difference. It is a challenging and interesting role that will give you an opportunity to get involved and make a positive contribution to your community.

*If you are unable to commit this amount of time, then you could instead become a co-opted member to a committee of the Board (there are currently eight, covering a range of activity.) This would involve attending just four to five meetings a year.

If you are interested in finding out more about the role, please get in touch with Sharon Barron, Clerk to the Board via Sharon.barron@gowercollegeswansea.ac.uk or on 01792 284222. There is also an option for you to chat with a current Board member if you wish.
