Gower College Swansea Gets Students Exam-Ready

As exam and assessment season approaches, Gower College Swansea is reaffirming its commitment to supporting learners during one of the most important and often challenging times in their academic journey.

Recognising the significant pressure many learners face, the College is highlighting the wide range of support available to help students manage stress, stay focused with revision, and maintain positive mental wellbeing.

New research from YoungMinds highlights the scale of the issue. Around 63% of 15 to 18-year-olds say they struggle to cope in the lead-up to and during GCSEs and A Levels, with exams and academic pressure cited as the biggest negative impacts on mental health.

To help combat increased anxiety and stress, the College continues to promote simple, practical strategies to support effective revision and wellbeing, but this year, the College is also rolling out some new wellbeing initiatives to give learners a bit of extra support during exam season.

Learners have access to a wide network of pastoral care, drop-in sessions, and student-led initiatives because sometimes it just helps to know there are people around who understand what exam season feels like. And in the libraries, there are even puzzles and colouring available for anyone who needs a proper break from the books.

The College has also created calm spaces for students who may need a quieter environment to relax before an exam. These areas will act as a sanctuary, offering a moment of calm and providing refreshments such as decaffeinated drinks, herbal teas, and fresh fruit.

For the first time, mindfulness workshops will be running in partnership with The Exchange Swansea, helping learners find practical ways to manage stress, alongside yoga sessions for those who just need to switch off and breathe for a while.

Ryan McCarley, Senior Support Officer for Gower College Swansea explains:

"Our Thrive workshops are all about giving learners a different kind of support during exam season, a space to build confidence, develop self-esteem, and learn techniques they can use well beyond their exams. Working in partnership with The Exchange Swansea allows us to bring in fresh, practical approaches that really resonate with students, helping them feel more grounded, capable and ready to face the challenges ahead"

Paul Kift, Principal of Gower College Swansea, added:

"This time of year can feel overwhelming when students are in the thick of exams and assessments, but by taking small, manageable steps, they can ease that pressure and build confidence. Looking after mental health is just as important as revision, and simple strategies can make a real difference."

"At Gower College Swansea, we want every learner to know they are not alone. Whether they need help with revision, support with their wellbeing, or simply someone to listen, our staff are here every step of the way to help them feel reassured, confident, and ready to succeed."

"The College is also encouraging parents and carers to play an active role by supporting learners at home," Paul Kift explains.

"Helping them to create realistic revision plans, maintain healthy routines, and celebrate small achievements along the way all really help."

"From revision tips, quiet spaces and structured study support to mindfulness, yoga, and student engagement activities, Gower College Swansea is committed to ensuring that every learner has the tools and support they need to succeed both academically and personally."
