Winter School - Shandong Experimental High School

We were delighted to welcome students from Shandong Experimental High School to Gower College Swansea in February 2026 for a weeklong visit. The students displayed impressive confidence when communicating with staff in English, and were given an additional challenge by being introduced to our native Welsh language through sessions with our friendly and dedicated Welsh team. They also met with our Oxbridge tutors to develop their Critical Thinking skills, strengthening their abilities in problemsolving, evaluation and analysis.

During their stay, students took part in an exciting visit to Swansea University’s Faculty of Medicine, where they enjoyed handson learning experiences including cardiovascular CPR practice and a pharmaceutical capsulemaking session. These activities offered valuable insight into realworld medical and scientific training.

The group also explored Swansea City Centre, including a trip to Wales’ largest indoor market, where they enjoyed tasting traditional Welsh cakes. Students enthusiastically conversed with local people throughout the visit. They later visited the National Waterfront Museum, showing great curiosity about Wales’ industrial heritage.

On campus, students shadowed AS classes to experience both familiar and new subjects. Many found the opportunity to study areas such as Electronics particularly fascinating.

Their itinerary also included visits to Rhossili, the Swansea.com Stadium and Swansea Marina. The week concluded with a small ceremony recognising their hard work, giving them the chance to meet and speak with local learners as well as our international student community here at Gower College Swansea.
