Overview

In this course, you will explore the behavior and mind of individuals. You will develop skills including critical analysis, independent thinking and research. Dive deep into key psychological theories and research methods through engaging classroom discussions and practical activities. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the main approaches and classic research studies in Psychology.

Areas studied:

  • Biological, Behavioural, Psychodynamic, Cognitive and Positive Approaches
  • Classic research studies by e.g. Bowlby, Raine et al, Loftus and Palmer
  • Research methodologies and data analysis
  • Debates and Controversies in Psychology
  • Explanations and treatments of Schizophrenia, Stress and Criminal Behaviour.

By the end of the course, you'll be equipped with a solid foundation for further studies in psychology or related fields, promoting a passion for understanding the complexities of the human mind.

Key information

  • A minimum of seven GCSE’s grades A*-C
  • B grades in GCSE English Language, Mathematics and Science essential.

Assessment is through end of year exams.

Year 1:

  • Unit 1 – 20% Past to Present
  • Unit 2 – 20% Using Psychological Concepts.

Year 2:

  • Unit 3 – 40% The study of Behaviours
  • Unit 4 – 20% Applied Research Methods.

Successful completion of WJEC A Level Psychology opens doors to many different progression opportunities. Psychology is useful for careers in medicine, counselling, nursing, teaching, social work, market research, human resources and many more.
