Term two
Ideal for both beginners and those with some experience. This term encourages deeper exploration of composition, brushwork, and the use of tone and colour to convey mood and meaning.
Term three
Building on skills and techniques taught in terms one and two, you’ll be encouraged to develop your own projects, supported by one-to-one feedback and group critiques.

- Explore composition and brushwork to create expressive works
- Encourage personal style and conceptual development in painting
- Provide constructive feedback in a supportive studio environment.
Key information
No previous experience necessary, just an interest in the subject area. Learners would benefit from attending each term to build skills in preparation for term two and term three courses, although this is not a barrier to attending each term as a standalone course.
This course is delivered in the art and design studios at our Llwyn y Bryn Campus in Uplands, Swansea.
To achieve your qualification, you'll complete a practical booklet of outcomes throughout the course, which will then be assessed.
Each term lasts for 10 weeks. You'll find it beneficial to attend consecutive terms to progressively develop your skills, but you're also welcome to join any term as a complete standalone course.
Progression from any part-time course could offer a pathway to full-time courses in art and design. For adult learners considering a creative career, the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design course could provide a progression route for this.
All materials are provided. A studio fee of £20 is payable for each 10 week term.
All work can be collected on completion of booklet.
