Creative skills under the spotlight for students

Students on a range of creative and visual arts courses at Gower College Swansea had a fantastic opportunity to meet with employers and university lecturers during the first ever Design 48 showcase, which was held at the Gorseinon and Llwyn y Bryn campuses.

The idea behind Design 48 was developed by the College in partnership with Rachael Wheatley of Waters Creative.

Talented artists celebrated at College

Some of Gower College Swansea’s most talented learners have competed in the Principal’s Art Prize, a new initiative open to those studying creative subjects at the Gorseinon and Llwyn y Bryn campuses.

Taking Gold was Foundation Art and Design student Karen Woods with her thoughtful pastel pencil piece entitled Ethiopian Child.

Based on an actual encounter with the little girl, Karen said: “I loved her smile and the warmth of her eyes. She owned next to nothing but was happy and full of affection.”

Special artwork captures the spirit of Llwyn y Bryn

Art and Design student Flora Luckman has been commissioned by Gower College Swansea to create a bespoke piece of work that captures the ethos and atmosphere of the Llwyn y Bryn Campus.

Flora has recently completed the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Llwyn y Bryn and is now progressing to the University of Edinburgh to study Illustration.
