Please note that this course is available only to recent school leavers (i.e. they will begin the course in the September immediately following their GCSE exams).
This is a one year, full time course aimed at school leavers who are undecided about the vocational route they wish to pursue. It is designed to give learners an opportunity to try up to 12 different subjects over the course of an academic year. In most cases, these subjects will not be optional and you will be expected to attend all classes.
Added February 2019
You will expected to have achieved four GCSEs at grades D-G.
Subjects studied could include:
- Health and Social Care
- Public Services
- IT / Digital Media
- Travel and Tourism
- Construction / Plumbing
- Engineering / Motor Vehicle
- Forensic Science
- Art and Design
Depending on your GCSE grades, you may have the opportunity to re-sit GCSEs in Maths, English Language or Science.
Some of the core units will be delivered in the classroom and some of the more practical units will be workshop or kitchen based. When in the kitchen or workshop, students will be expected to wear suitable PPE which the college will supply at a cost of approximately £50.
The course is graded Pass / Merit / Distinction so learners achieving the higher grades may be able to progress onto higher level programmes the following year.
