Stepping up to STEM
For the past six weeks, pupils from local schools have attended a Saturday Club at Gower College Swansea which aims to develop their skills and enthusiasm for engineering.
The Saturday Club allows pupils to access the expertise of the teaching staff, the industry-specific equipment and on-site facilities of the Tycoch campus.

VQ Day 2017
Gower College Swansea is looking forward to supporting VQ Day 2017.
The College currently offers around 40 vocational pathways for full time learners, which includes courses in subjects as diverse as catering, digital technology, beauty, sport and travel and tourism.
One student who is thoroughly enjoying his college journey is Josh Neill, who is studying towards a Level 3 qualification in Hospitality and Catering.

Another success story for The Bridge Programme
After completing the Bridge Programme with top marks, Gower College Swansea student Abdul Zanain is now progressing onto a Level 2 Digital Technology course at the Tycoch campus.
His interest in digital technology began after he completed a taster session at the Tycoch campus as part of the Bridge course.

A Bridge to career progression for Selena
When Selena Massey started on the Bridge Programme at Gower College Swansea, she was undecided about where her future career path lay.
Now, two and a half years later, Selena is employed as a brake and suspension technician with Kwik Fit, and she fully credits the Bridge Programme with helping her gain her focus and confidence.
“I started the programme willing to give everything a go,” says Selena. “I knew that practical subjects would be my strongest point and I was able to access support with my maths and English so that now I have qualifications in those subjects.”

Football students enjoy Portugal training camp
A group of 25 Sports students from Gower College Swansea enjoyed a two week training camp with Portuguese football giants, SL Benfica.
The students, who are all studying on Football, Coaching & Development Programme, were put through their paces by the Benfica coaching staff before taking part in four matches against local teams - with two wins, one loss and a draw.

Project takes pupils from the classroom to the pitch
An English GCSE booster session took a group of Pentrehafod pupils out of the classroom and onto the football pitch – thanks to Gower College Swansea and the Reaching Wider Partnership.
College lecturer Duane Sanders, who devised the sessions in partnership with the school’s English department, incorporated a competition for the pupils to write a letter about meeting a premiership football player.

Schools enjoy Football Festival
Over 50 Swansea school pupils braved the wind and rain to enjoy a Football Festival at Elba Sports Complex this week - a fantastic event organised by Sports students from Gower College Swansea.
The event took the format of a 7-a-side 'round robin' with all the schools playing against each other, with a Final being played by the two top-scoring schools.
Entrepreneurship project for school pupils launched
A new project to help schools teach enterprise skills to 5 and 6 year old pupils has launched.
The Bumbles of Honeywood is a set of books, online resources and educational materials designed to nurture enterprise skills from a young age - as well as teaching children about the plight of the endangered honey bee.
The project was created by Sue Poole, CEO / Director of the Swansea-based Centre for Entrepreneurial Education and Enterprise Manager at Gower College Swansea.

Principal named as finalist in IoD Director of the Year Awards
Mark Jones, Principal of Gower College Swansea, has been shortlisted in the IoD Wales Director of the Year Awards 2017, which honour many of Wales’ most influential and motivational business leaders.
Over 35 directors have been shortlisted across the award’s ten categories which include three new categories in 2017: Finance Director of the Year; Director in Human Resources and Director in a Start-Up Business.
Mark has been shortlisted in the ‘Director of the Year – Public Sector’ category which is sponsored by Academi Wales.
