Covid update from Principal, Mark Jones (Monday 14 February)

Following last Friday’s updated guidance from the First Minister in relation to education, there will be no changes to our current Covid measures within the College before half term.

Incident in the Gorseinon area (10 February)

We are aware of a violent incident in Gorseinon Bus Station last night (Thursday 10 February).

South Wales Police have since issued a Section 60 notice, which gives officers the authority to stop and search anyone within the area, this includes the Gorseinon Campus.

Although this incident would appear to have no links to the College, we are encouraging all students to stay on campus today. 

We also have support officers available to anyone who feels they have been affected by this incident.

Mark Jones, Principal of Gower College Swansea and Vaughan Gething, the Minister for the Economy, are asking Welsh businesses to consider recruiting apprentices in a bid to fill vacancies.

Gower College Swansea students win Pet Pawtrait competition

Two Gower College Swansea students have been presented with prizes for the under 18 category of the 9to90 Creative Community Pet Pawtrait competition.

The annual competition, organized by Jane Simpson of GSArtists, gives the community an opportunity to come together from all ages and abilities and to have their work exhibited in the gallery.

Covid update from Principal, Mark Jones (27 January)

The Welsh Government's First Minister Mark Drakeford recently confirmed that from Friday 28 January, Wales will move to alert level zero, unless the public health situation changes for the worse.

But what does this mean for the College?  

During the autumn term, we have had consistently low numbers of cases among our student community.

This has been a result of the safety measures we have in place and your cooperation in ensuring that we all work together to disrupt the transmission of the virus.

Update from Principal, Mark Jones (21 January)

Currently there are many very different messages in the media about covid restrictions that can be very confusing – and so I thought that it may be useful to clarify the College’s position. 
  
At this time, there are no proposals for any changes within the College or indeed within any education institution in Wales. Within Swansea, the risk of infection remains high and we all need to continue to remain vigilant.
