3,000 new apprenticeships created in Swansea Bay City Region

UK Government Minister for Wales David TC Davies has met young people set to benefit from a new £30m initiative to provide training and development opportunities.

Following the UK Government and Welsh Government approval of the Swansea Bay City Deal’s Skills and Talent programme, Minister Davies met students at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Gower College Swansea to hear how it will benefit young people across Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, County of Swansea, and Neath Port Talbot.

Gower College Swansea’s new garden set to give nature a helping hand

Gower College Swansea has been awarded a new garden package by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy.

They are one of the first colleges in the country to benefit from this year’s Local Places for Nature scheme.

Gower College Swansea’s Landscaping team will be creating a memorial garden with an emphasis on providing plants beneficial to pollinators and wildlife at the Hill House campus. All the plants, tools and materials are being provided for free by Keep Wales Tidy.

College’s music students take Fringe Festival by storm

Gower College Swansea’s Music Production and Performance students recently performed at their very own Swansea Fringe Festival stage. 

The Beacons x Gower College Swansea Takeover stage, at Hangar 18 on Saturday 23 October, featured music from College bands Avalanche, Konflix, Fish Tank, & Ocean View, along with a performance from alumni student and former student of the year, Olivia Kneath. The bands covered a wide span of genres, from indie to alt and hardcore.

Important update on self-isolation guidance – 29 October

On Friday 29 October, Welsh Government announced changes to self-isolation guidance. This is due to the continued high level of positive Covid-19 cases in Wales.

Please note this updated guidance now applies even if you are fully vaccinated or aged under 18.

If someone in your household has tested positive or has symptoms of Covid-19, you will have to self-isolate and book a Covid-19 PCR test.

Gower College Swansea brightens up community in partnership with local company and councillors

Gower College Swansea has recently funded the painting of three telecom boxes near their campuses, two at Sketty Green and one at Tycoch.

The project, in partnership with local Councillors Mike Day and Cheryl Philpott, aims to improve the community feeling around the campuses. The work was carried out by Ffion Nolwenn, a past student of the College from local company, Fresh Creative Co.

College gains premier partner in China

Gower College Swansea has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Changzhou Vocational Institute of Engineering (CZIE), China.

CZIE is a top ranking vocational college in China, initially established in 1958. The introduction to the institution was made by Welsh Government, Shanghai, who also helped to organise the event.

The virtual signing ceremony, hosted on Tuesday 19 October, was attended by around 100 students and staff in China, including the President and Vice President of CZIE, colleagues from Welsh Government in China and Cardiff, and WorldSkills UK.
