College launches HE+ and Seren Academy for 2019
Gower College Swansea has welcomed over 400 learners to the Gorseinon campus for the launch of the HE+ programme and Seren Academy for 2019/20.
Gower College Swansea, at the invitation of and in collaboration with, the University of Cambridge, is the ‘hub’ institution in the Swansea HE+ Consortium, working with the seven state sixth-form schools in the City and County of Swansea.

£6.6m EU funding to support Gower College Swansea employability programme
A major £6.6m EU investment is set to expand and extend a Swansea employability programme through to 2021.
Five new projects, part of the ‘Better Jobs, Better Futures’ programme, will be delivered by Gower College Swansea, in partnership with local employers.
The programme is targeted at people who are unemployed, under-employed or in lower paid jobs, and will offer a range of individualised support including coaching, mentoring, work placements, and opportunities to achieve qualifications.

During the recent WorldSkills Kazan 2019 competition event, no less than six of the 19 medals won by Team UK came from Wales.
Among the medal winners was Collette Gorvett, who studied Hospitality and Catering at Gower College Swansea before being snapped up by The Ritz in London. Collette competed in the Restaurant Services category, where she impressed the judges with her talents in making mocktails, restaurant mise en place and fine dining, and was eventually awarded a coveted Medallion of Excellence.

Welsh youngsters named among best in the world at international skills competition
Talented young people from across Wales have been recognised as world-class experts at the WorldSkills International competition in Russia.
The event is the world’s largest skills competition and took place across four days in Kazan with young people from more than 63 counties battling it out to be awarded a medal in their chosen skill.

Scholarship success for International student
Jarrett Zhang is celebrating after being awarded a £180,000 scholarship from the Rio Tinto mining company to study Geology at Imperial College London.
Jarrett, who achieved two A* grades and one A in his recent A Level exams, will receive £45,000 per year, over a four-year period, to cover tuition fees and living expenses. The Rio Tinto scholarship was awarded to just two students in 2019 so this is a fantastic achievement.
Jarrett also celebrated sporting success this year when he won the 2019 Welsh Colleges table tennis championships.
