Engineering and Catering / Hospitality students from the Tycoch campus were invited by the Royal Navy to tour HMS Richmond, a ‘type 23’ frigate docked at Cardiff Bay.

“We were warmly received by the Captain and his crew and given an extensive tour of the ship,” says lecturer Mark Row. “This visit will be followed by the Royal Navy’s attending Tycoch to discuss apprenticeship pathways with groups of Engineering and Catering students.”

Alice Reynolds won the European Archery Tournament (IFAA) over three days in Valencia, competing against archers from all over the world including Youth Olympic medallists and eventually breaking her own Welsh record, breaking the European record and taking gold!

Ice cream + pizza = profit

Year 10 Birchgrove pupils on the college’s Kick Start Programme have worked in partnership with Dominos to run a successful event at the Gorseinon campus – selling Joe’s ice cream as part of their Enterprise qualification.

“I really enjoyed creating a business plan and working out the amount of profit that can be made,” says pupil Jake Todd, who acted as project manager. “I can already recognise the support and opportunities available for me to progress further in college.”

Over 100 Higher Education students from Gower College Swansea recently attended a special graduation event at the Great Hall on Swansea University's Bay Campus.

The students were celebrating achievement in subjects as diverse as accountancy, engineering, leadership and management, sports massage therapies, hair and beauty management, childcare, and health and social care services.

Apprentice star wows at Swansea Bay business lunch

Attendees at Swansea Bay Business Club’s October lunch enjoyed a talk held by entrepreneur and winner of BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, Joseph Valente.

Joseph delighted the audience at the Marriott Hotel as he shared stories of his time on the hit TV show and working with business magnate, Lord Alan Sugar.

During the event, which was sponsored by GCS Training, guests were encouraged to ask Joseph questions about his career and business - Impra Gas - as they enjoyed a three course meal and networking opportunities with businesses from across Swansea Bay and beyond.

Tycoch Campus Updates

Below are all updates issued both about and in response to the recent fire at Tycoch campus.

Important info re: Tycoch Park and Ride service (Monday, 27 February 2017)

Please be aware that the Park & Ride service from Fforestfach to Tycoch campus will STOP on Friday 7 April. Additional parking spaces will become available at Tycoch over the coming weeks as a number of the temporary portacabins are removed from site.

College celebrates Diversity Week 2016

College celebrates Diversity Week 2016

Staff and students across Gower College Swansea have celebrated Diversity Week with the eleventh annual Diversity Fayre and a series of awareness-raising workshops.

Among the entertainment on offer this year was African drumming, Brazilian martial arts, henna hand painting and displays of Bollywood, street and Chinese dance. Live music was provided by students from Llwyn y Bryn and Gorseinon*.
