Students experience a flavour of the textile world
A group of Art and Design students from Llwyn y Bryn were fortunate enough to recently visit the Melin Tregwynt woollen mill in a remote part of the Pembrokeshire coast. This visit was organised by Gower College Swansea's Bilingual Champion Anna Davies and Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle.
The mill has been in the family of Amanda and Eifion Griffiths since 1912 and it employs over 30 people.

College students and young renal patients from Swansea have come together for a cooking demonstration evening with a difference.
The Gower College Swansea students prepared meals from a recipe book specially designed for people with kidney problems. Dishes were served up to a group of young people who attend the renal unit at Morriston Hospital, during an evening at the college’s Vanilla Pod training restaurant in the Tycoch campus.
The Ready Steady Cook event was inspired by Food with Thought, a recipe book produced by the National Kidney Foundation.

Students support White Ribbon campaign
A group of Health and Social Care students from Gower College Swansea have been working hard to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues.
The Level 2 Diploma students were inspired to act following a recent tutorial session delivered by the local multi-agency domestic abuse ‘One Stop Shop.’
Following on from this tutorial, the students decided to support the White Ribbon Campaign, an initiative - devised by men – that is aimed at encouraging everyone to stand up to those who commit violence against women.

A Welsh first for Rory
A Gower College Swansea student has become the first from a Welsh educational institution to be shortlisted in the Royal Economic Society’s Young Economist of the Year competition.
Rory Daniels, who is studying A Levels at the Gorseinon campus and is a student governor, made the final shortlist of just 20 taken from an initial 2000 entries.

Students inspired by Funky Pump founder
Former student - and inspirational entrepreneur - Chris Ware recently delivered a tour and workshop for Level 1 Sport and Public Services students at his Funky Pump fitness warehouse in Swansea.
Funky Pump is an award-winning concept which combines fitness with house music in a unique nightclub-style setting. With live DJs banging out sets while qualified instructors take you through your paces, there really is no other class like it around.

College students excel at Start Up Weekend
Gower College Swansea students - past and present - performed exceptionally well at the recent ‘Start Up Weekend’ at the Dylan Thomas Centre.
The event was a challenging 54-hour long competition with teams from Swansea University, University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) and Gower College Swansea taking to the stage to pitch original, innovative business ideas.

National success for netball students
For the second consecutive year, a netball team comprising Gower College Swansea students is celebrating national success after taking part in the recent Urdd Netball competitions in Cardiff.
In the quarter finals the team won 19-10 against Cardiff High before beating NPTC 4-8 in the semi-final. In the final round, the score was 14-8 against the Haberdashers.

Shadowing scheme leads to work experience for student
Thanks to a Welsh Government scheme called Entrepreneurial Shadowing, Gower College Swansea student Kieren Palfrey has taken his first steps towards a career in marketing.
Entrepreneurial Shadowing enables young people to work alongside a real entrepreneur to gain first-hand experience of what running a business is all about.

New bursary for entrepreneurs launched
A new fund to help budding entrepreneurs turn their ideas into reality has been launched in Swansea.
The Swansea Seed Fund has been set up to nurture young people aged 16-25 as they develop their ideas from the early stages right through to – potentially - successful business start ups.
