Sarah King, HR Director at Gower College Swansea, has been named a finalist in this year’s Leading Wales Awards.

Sarah has been nominated in the Leadership in the Public Sector category for her role as HR Director where she has transformed the human resources function from a policy driven department to one that puts staff wellbeing and engagement at the heart of everything it does.

Gower College Swansea scooped three awards in the Wales HR Awards 2018 in a glittering black-tie ceremony in Cardiff’s Exchange Hotel on Friday 22 March.

The awards ceremony – which recognises and celebrates the achievements of HR professionals and employers across Wales – is the flagship event of the Wales HR Network, a leading professional thought sharing and networking group created and run by Cardiff-based commercial law firm Darwin Gray and Acorn, Wales’ leading recruitment specialist. 

Gower College Swansea has been recognised by Welsh Government for the high standard of health and wellbeing of its staff through successfully achieving the Gold Corporate Health Standard award.

Run by the Welsh Government through Healthy Working Wales, the Corporate Health Standard (CHS) is the quality mark for workplace health promotion in Wales. The standard recognises good practice and targets key preventable ill-health issues and the Health Challenge Wales priorities.

Gower College Swansea recently held a special celebratory event at the Liberty Stadium to honour members of staff with more than 20 years’ service.

“This is the second consecutive year that we have held these Long Service Awards as we feel it is very important to recognise the dedication and loyalty of so many of our members of staff,” says Director of HR Sarah King. “It was also a perfect opportunity to showcase the College’s brand new staff choir who made their debut at the event and who gave a fantastic performance.”

Gower College Swansea has marked White Ribbon Day by launching a brand new domestic abuse policy.

Domestic abuse is a largely hidden crime as it tends to occurs at home and is very often not reported. Yet, on average, two people are killed by their partner or former partner every week in England and Wales* and, again on average, the police in England and Wales receive over 100 calls relating to domestic abuse every hour**

Staff at Gower College Swansea were recently invited to a special seminar on managing the menopause in the workplace.

The hour-long talk was hosted by the award-winning nutritionist, author and Happy Hormones For Life founder Nicki Williams.

An innovative human resources system that has saved both time and money has seen Gower College Swansea scoop a prestigious national award from HR Magazine.

The ‘All About Me/All About My Staff’ system was recently named the Most Innovative Deployment of HR Technology at the HR Excellence Awards 2015 in London, beating stiff competition from national and international giants such as Santander, Monster and Nationwide Building Society.
