On yer bike for Kenya

Each year Gower College Swansea students hold a series of fundraising events in support of the Kenya Community Education Project and, despite restrictions due to the pandemic, they found a way to do it in 2020!

The students at Gorseinon and Tycoch campuses competed against each other on bikes to virtually cover the distance from Nairobi to Sigmore to raise money for Madungu Primary School, with which the College has a long-standing association.

Virtual rowing raises money for Kenya

Gower College Swansea lecturer Cat Wilkes is spending some of her lockdown time raising much needed funds for the Kenya Community Education Project (KCEP).

The KCEP, which was set up at Gower College Swansea in 2003, aims to support the Madungu community by improving access to education, skills, income and employability.

Cat, who teaches A Level and vocational ICT, will undertake a ‘virtual row’ across the English Channel, starting at 10am on Friday 1 May.

Students thanked for fund-raising efforts

Students at Gower College Swansea have raised an astonishing £11,000 over the past two years – money that has been donated to the Kenya Community Education Project

During each year of their time at College, these students have organised a range of charity events including a walrus dip in the freezing waters of Caswell Bay (in the middle of December), two separate climbs up Mount Snowdon, and a gruelling 40-mile walk through Cannock Chase.

In addition, they took it in turns to manage a stall in the reception of the Gorseinon Campus where they sold refreshments.

A splash in the sea for charity - students take a walrus dip

A group of hardy students from Gower College Swansea have taken to the freezing cold waters of Caswell Bay to raise money for the Kenya Community Education Project (KCEP) charity.

The annual ‘walrus dip’ is just one of a number of events that the students organise to raise awareness and funds for the charity. Just last month, they also completed a gruelling Snowdon climb.

The student-led KCEP, which was set up at Gower College Swansea in 2003, aims to support the Madungu community by improving access to education, skills, income and employability.

Caswell Bay dip for fund-raising students

A group of very brave staff and students from Gower College Swansea recently took to the icy waters of Caswell Bay for a very good cause – to raise money for the Kenya Community Education Project (KCEP) charity.

This ‘walrus dip’ was part of a series of endurance events, including the 40 mile Cannock Chase Walk and a Snowdon climb, that the students will attempt in the coming months.
