Mock interviews strengthen skills for progression

Levels 2 and 3 Sport and Public Services students from Gower College Swansea's Tycoch campus recently attended mock interview sessions with local employers at an event organised by Lucy Turtle, the college's Enterprise Officer, and Gareth Price from Career Wales.

“This event was intended to help over 100 students gain employment or to succeed in higher education interviews," says Lucy. "It also addressed criteria set out in the ‘Career Planning' unit of the curriculum."

Progression success for Armed Forces Prep students

Three students about to graduate from Gower College Swansea’s Armed Forces Preparation course are heading off for pastures new after being successful in their applications to the Royal Navy.

Hamish Fleming, Matthew Milner and John Sanderson all agree that the 18-week course at the Tycoch campus helped prepare them mentally and physically for the challenges ahead.

Pen-y-Fan charity walk

Congratulations to the group of Armed Forces Preparation Course students who raised over £1,800 for charity with a walk up South Wales’ highest peak. The walk to the top of Pen-y-Fan has raised the incredible amount which will be split between three charities - “Blood Bikes Wales”, “Wales Air Ambulance” and “Healing the Wounds” charities. Course tutor Greg Morgan thanked the students for their fundraising efforts .

The college course has actively supported these charities for a number of years and raised over £10,000 to date.

Keep up the good work!

Students head to Brussels on European Parliament trip

A group of Level 3 Public Service students have just returned from a visit to the European parliament in Brussels. During the visit they learned about the work of the European Parliament and also got a chance to meet Jill Evans - the Plaid Cymru Member of the European Parliament for Wales.

Students put Pen-y-Bryn pupils through their paces

Students on the Armed Forces Preparation course at Gower College Swansea have organised a sponsored cycle with a difference. Pupils from Pen-y-Bryn Special School completed a virtual ride around the coast of Gower, without leaving the Sports Centre on the Tycoch campus!

They were set a challenge to collectively cover the 46 miles in 15 minutes, which is some feat. They actually exceeded this, travelling a total distance of 61.1 miles!
