College hosts Worldskills Industrial Electronics regional heat

A group of Digital Technology students from Gower College Swansea have competed in a WorldSkills competition, held at the Tycoch campus in association with Semta and Premier EDA Solutions.

It was an intensive day with four main parts to the competition: a soldering/construction exercise; a theory paper; a prototype challenge using a breadboard and a software programming test.

The winners were named as Kieran Belton (Gold), Cody Wilks (Silver) and Ryan Thomas (Bronze).

Myfyrwyr Coleg Gŵyr Abertawe yn cipio Aur ac Arian!

Mae dau fyfyriwr o Goleg Gŵyr Abertawe wedi ennill medalau yn y Sioe Sgiliau Find a Future a gynhaliwyd yn ddiweddar yn yr NEC yn Birmingham.

Enillodd y fyfyrwraig Astudiaethau Dysgu Annibynnol Kayleigh Lewis fedal Aur yn y gystadleuaeth ‘Sgiliau Coginio Cynhwysol', lle roedd gofyn iddi baratoi a chyflwyno brechdanau wedi'u llenwi yn steil rapiau a bara fflat gan arddangos y sgiliau paratoi, hylendid a diogelwch cywir trwy'r holl waith.

GCS students scoop Gold and Silver at Skills Show

Two Gower College Swansea students brought home medals from the recent Find a Future Skills Show at the Birmingham NEC.

ILS student Kayleigh Lewis was awarded Gold in the ‘Inclusive Cooking Skills’ competition, where she was required to prepare and present filled wrap-style sandwiches and flat breads while demonstrating the correct preparation, hygiene and safety skills throughout.

“Kayleigh didn’t seem fazed at all leading up to the competition and took it all in her stride,” says Learning Area Manager, Mark Clement.

Cystadleuaeth peirianneg yn arwain at swydd i Stefano

Mae ennill cystadleuaeth peirianneg wedi talu ar ei ganfed i’r myfyriwr Stefano Amoruso o Goleg Gŵyr Abertawe ar ôl i un o’r beirniaid gynnig prentisiaeth iddo.

Yn ddiweddar enillodd Stefano rownd derfynol ranbarthol cystadleuaeth Electroneg Ddiwydiannol WorldSkills y DU ar gampws Tycoch a nawr bydd yn mynd ymlaen i gystadlu yn y Sioe Sgiliau yn yr NEC, Birmingham ym mis Tachwedd. Mae’n bosibl hefyd y caiff le yn rowndiau terfynol WorldSkills Rhyngwladol sydd ar y gorwel yn Abu Dhabi yn 2017.

Stefano engineers himself a job

Winning an engineering competition proved just the job for Gower College Swansea student Stefano Amoruso when one of the judges offered him an apprenticeship.

Stefano won the recent WorldSkills UK Industrial Electronics regional final at the Tycoch campus and will now go on to compete at the Skills Show at Birmingham’s NEC in November. There is also the potential of a place at the WorldSkills International finals in Abu Dhabi in 2017 in the pipeline.

Hat trick for GCS students at Worldskills competition

Gower College Swansea students took the top three places at the recent Worldskills Industrial Electronics regional heat at the Tycoch campus.

In first place was Stefano Amoruso, followed by Matthew Sutch and Niko Leuchtenberg.

The students' results will now be scored against the other regions (including England and Ireland) and, if they make the top 12 in the country, they will represent Wales and the UK in the NEC national finals in November.

Llwyddiant myfyrwyr cerdd yng nghymal rhanbarthol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru

Mae bandiau sy’n cynnwys myfyrwyr galwedigaethol Lefel 3 Cerddoriaeth o Goleg Gŵyr Abertawe wedi ennill rhai o’r prif wobrau yng nghymal rhanbarthol Cerddoriaeth Boblogaidd Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru yn ddiweddar.

Roedd y myfyrwyr, o’r cwrs Diploma Estynedig ar gampws Llwyn y Bryn, wedi cystadlu yn erbyn cerddorion o wyth coleg arall ar hyd a lled Cymru, gan berfformio dwy gân wreiddiol yr un o flaen panel o feirniaid.

Enillodd Zen Dogs y wobr Aur ac enillodd Inscape y wobr Efydd yn ystod y digwyddiad yn Theatr Ffwrnes, Llanelli.

Music students take top prizes at SkillsCompetition Wales regional heat

Bands comprising Level 3 Vocational Music students from Gower College Swansea swept the board at the recent SkillsCompetition Wales Popular Music regional heat.

The students, from the Extended Diploma course at the Llwyn y Bryn campus, competed against musicians from eight other colleges across Wales, performing two original songs each before a panel of judges.

Zen Dogs took Gold and Inscape were awarded Bronze at the event at Theatr Ffwrnes in Llanelli.

Coleg yn croesawu cymal rhanbarthol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru

Yn ddiweddar roedd Coleg Gŵyr Abertawe wrthi’n paratoi i groesawu cymal rhanbarthol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru ar gyfer Technoleg Moduron.

Roedd wyth myfyriwr o bob rhan o Dde Cymru wedi ymgasglu ar gampws Gorseinon ar 31 Ionawr, lle bu’n rhaid iddynt gwblhau pedair tasg ymarferol 30 munud o dan lygad barcud panel o feirniaid o fyd addysg a byd diwydiant.

College hosts Skills Competition Wales regional heat

Gower College Swansea recently geared up to host the Skills Competition Wales regional heat for Automobile Technology.

Eight students from across South Wales converged at the Gorseinon campus on 30 January, where they were given four practical 30-minute tasks to complete under the watchful eye of a panel of judges drawn from education and industry.
