China visit a success

Principal Mark Jones was invited by Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) - the number one ranked foreign languages university in China - to deliver a keynote speech at their fifth Principal Round Table Summit on ‘challenges and solutions in International education’.

Mark also had the honour of being appointed to the BFSU International Advisory Board.

In recent years, BFSU has established a number of K-12 International schools, some of which offer IGCSE and A Level qualifications.

Celebration lunch for International students

Class of 2018

Our 2018 class of A2 international students attended a graduation lunch ceremony at Sketty Hall.

The event was an opportunity to recognise the fact that 100% of our International A2 students received offers to study at Russell Group universities.

College staff and Homestay hosts, who our students had lived with during their time in Swansea, were able to congratulate the group on their amazing success.

The International department wishes all of our A2 students a fond farewell and every success for their future.

Elite skilled youngsters head to Bupapest battle

Elite skilled youngsters head to Budapest battle

The finest young skilled students from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have been selected to represent the UK at Europe’s most important and prestigious skills competition, it has been announced.

Among them is Gower College Swansea Hospitality student Collette Gorvett.

Team UK – which heads to the EuroSkills Finals in Budapest from 26 to 28 September – will comprise of 22 elite competitors skilled in a broad spectrum of disciplines from engineering to construction, digital to creative.

Positive Estyn inspection for Gower College Swansea

Gower College Swansea has recently received a very positive Estyn inspection which praises the College for its support for learners, strong partnerships with industry and schools, excellent exam results and successful student progression to top universities.

In January 2018, the College was visited by a team of 17 HMI and peer inspectors who spent two weeks working across all seven of the main campuses.

Litter pick initiative launched at Tycoch

Litter pick initiative launched at Tycoch

It was all hands on deck at Gower College Swansea when Swans Ambassador Lee Trundle dropped by to lend his support to a brand new litter picking initiative at the Tycoch campus.

The initiative will see a different tutor group from Tycoch patrol the area around the campus every Thursday, covering four routes in Tycoch/Sketty using equipment kindly donated by City and Council of Swansea.

Students head for Hay Festival

Students head for Hay Festival

Two A Level English students from Gower College Swansea have been selected to attend the Beacons Project residential writing course at the Hay Festival 2018.

Emma Rowley and Sophie Apps are among just 20 young people to win places on the prestigious course, which offers Welsh students the opportunity to develop their creative writing skills and explore careers in writing and journalism by working with professional writers, broadcasters and journalists.
