Coronavirus updates
Following last week’s announcement by the Minister for Education that some students will be allowed to return to College from Monday 15 June, I would like to update you on how this announcement will impact on students studying at Gower College Swansea.
Firstly, I would once again confirm that our number one priority at Gower College Swansea remains the health and safety of our students and staff, and the Minister’s announcement will not change this priority in any way at all.

New remote learning opportunities to be explored
Gower College Swansea has signed a partnership agreement with the Open University in Wales (OU) that will see a wider range of flexible and distance learning opportunities being offered to higher level learners across the Swansea Bay region.

College supports NHS and local communities during Coronavirus crisis
Gower College Swansea has been working closely with Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) as well as employing other initiatives in support of the fight against Covid-19.
Over the past month, staff at Gower College Swansea have been delivering All Wales Manual Handling Passport Training to returning frontline hospital staff, medical students, care workers and health care assistants. To ensure everyone’s safety, training sessions are being delivered to small cohorts of students, ensuring social distancing guidelines are adhered to at all times.
New learning platform launched for College applicants
Gower College Swansea is delighted to this week launch its very first learning platform for the city’s year 11 school pupils.
With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Covid-19, the College was keen to strengthen its response by developing a bespoke platform to help keep applicants on track with their learning.

Gower College Swansea have announced that they have become a member of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce.

Gower College Swansea students are still able to access free sanitary products while we remain closed for face-to-face teaching.
With the ongoing uncertainty in relation to Covid-19, the College is determined to continue its support for students by offering free sanitary products to those who need it.
Students can access this service by visiting the following community centres and food banks within the times stated below
All they need to have with them is their current student ID card.

Updated message to parents and guardians: May
Last week I wrote once again to all of our College students thanking them all for their continued engagement with their studies and their ongoing hard work.
I want to reassure you that the College continues to work with the range of examination bodies who validate the different courses we offer, to better understand how our students’ performance is to be assessed in these very different and challenging times.

Redevelopment of Sketty Hall continues
Work to transform Sketty Hall into a fully-fledged Business School is progressing well.
While Gower College Swansea remains closed for face-to-face teaching and learning, its Estates department has been busy behind the scenes ensuring that the refurbishment of the Grade II listed building continues.
Most of the new electrics have now been installed, and painting and decorating work is taking place across the ground floor.
Updated message to our students - May
It’s been three weeks since I last updated you on the progress the College is making on the range of challenges we are currently facing.
I would again wish to thank all of you for your continued engagement with your studies. Whilst staff are continuing to both teach and provide tutorial and pastoral support online, the response from you has been excellent and clearly will help prepare you for your next step, whatever that may be.
