Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery and Catering

Course Overview

During this one year course you’ll learn about the importance of professional hospitality in the UK and to our own region’s economy. You will develop the skills required to work successfully in the industry, including how to communicate effectively with customers and your team, developing ideas for menus, food and beverage preparation and service.  

You will complete a Chef’s Diploma and a Food Service Certificate. You will complete a range of assessments to develop your ability in delivering excellent customer service, in a commercial catering environment.   

You will also study relevant Mathematics, English Language, Digital Literacy and Employability, through our Level up programme. 

Entry Requirements

  • 16+ years of age 
  • Commitment, enthusiasm and the ability to work with others is essential 
  • Completed Level 1 Diploma in Professional Cookery and Catering at Merit or above 
  • Or an equivalent hospitality and catering qualification with relevant industrial experience -this will be discussed at interview.  

Course Delivery

Practical assessments will be completed in the Vanilla Pod and commercial kitchens. 

Theory units include multiple choice questions, written assignments and short tests. 

Units are graded pass / merit / distinction.  

Progression Opportunities

Opportunities to progress on to Level 3 Professional Cookery and Catering or Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Tourism.

Additional Information

You will be required to buy specialist uniform and equipment (approximately £250). Information and costs will be given during your interview. You may be able to apply for funding. Lockers provided (refundable deposit required).
