Winter School - Shandong Experimental High School

We were delighted to welcome students from Shandong Experimental High School to Gower College Swansea in February 2026 for a weeklong visit. The students displayed impressive confidence when communicating with staff in English, and were given an additional challenge by being introduced to our native Welsh language through sessions with our friendly and dedicated Welsh team. They also met with our Oxbridge tutors to develop their Critical Thinking skills, strengthening their abilities in problemsolving, evaluation and analysis.

College embraces low-carbon technologies

Gower College Swansea has celebrated a significant milestone with the sectional handover of the top floor and roof at the Tycoch Campus.

This is the latest stage of a project that has seen the removal of RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) from the roof, followed by a series of coordinated work packages focused on safety, compliance and long-term sustainability.

These works will ensure that the College continues to address the fundamentals of building performance while creating the conditions needed to support future low‑carbon technologies.

Oxbridge beckons for 11 talented students

Eleven A Level students from Gower College Swansea have been offered conditional places to study at either Oxford or Cambridge University in 2026.

The students are all following the College’s GCS Honours programme at the Gorseinon Campus, which aims to provide the best possible preparation for students aiming to progress to Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group universities. They are:

GCS Netball Academy Crowned Welsh Champions at Presidents Cup

GCS Netball Academy were crowned Welsh Champions after a superb weekend of competition at the Wales Netball Presidents Cup, held in Bangor.

Travelling the length of the country, the squad showed outstanding resilience, unity, and performance quality throughout the tournament, working collectively as a squad of 12 to secure the national title.

The team delivered consistent performances across the weekend, demonstrating strong connections on court, disciplined execution, and a collective mindset that proved decisive in high-pressure moments.

College celebrates top apprentices and employers

Gower College Swansea has held a special awards ceremony at Swansea.com Stadium as part of Apprenticeship Week Wales 2026.

The event, which honoured the outstanding commitment and dedication of the College’s apprentices, staff and employer partners from across Wales and England, was hosted by presenter/broadcaster Ross Harries, who has been the face of Welsh rugby for more than a decade.

Winter School - Zhuzhou No.2 Middle School

We were delighted to welcome students from Zhuzhou No. 2 Middle School to Gower College Swansea this February for a Winter School programme, where they shadowed A-Level classes and took part in a range of activities across Swansea and the surrounding areas.

The students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to sit in on A-Level lessons and experience our learning style, noting the valuable contrast with their home-schooling system.

Building a sustainable future

Students from a range of courses including built environment, geography and geology were recently invited to a talk on The Future of Net Zero Carbon (NZC) at the Gorseinon Campus of Gower College Swansea.

Led by Head of Sustainability at McCann and Partners, Virginia Clement, the talk explored what NZC really means in practice. The session also identified the two main components of NZC (operational carbon and embodied carbon) and outlined the key goals driving the transition to a low-carbon built environment.

Young people encouraged to share views on future of further education

Two representatives from Gower College Swansea recently attended the Cross-Party Group (CPG) on Further Education and Skills, hosted by ColegauCymru | CollegesWales in Cardiff.

Young people from colleges across Wales met with Senedd Members from across the political spectrum and sector leaders at the final meeting of the CPG this Senedd term, which explored post-16 participation and the experiences of learners as they navigate Wales’ evolving tertiary education landscape.
