College hosts Skills Competition Wales regional heat for Hairdressing
Gower College Swansea recently hosted a regional final of the Skills Competition Wales in Advanced Cut and Colour (hairdressing).
Stylists from across South Wales gathered at the Broadway Hair, Beauty and Holistic Centre to demonstrate their talent with the scissors and spray.
The panel of judges included industry professionals Mike Morgan Swinhoe from M’s International, Lara Johnson, Vicky Jones from Unique Hair Design and salon director and ex-student Casey Coleman.

World renowned forensic dentist visits Gorseinon campus
His career has taken him around the world, working on cases as diverse and complex as the 2004 tsunami and the Fred West murder investigation.
However, forensic dentist Professor David Whittaker OBE took time out of his busy schedule this week to meet with A Level / BTEC STEM and medical tutorial students at Gower College Swansea.

Welsh Colleges Football record historic double over Australian Schools
Q: When did Wales last beat Australia in two sporting fixtures on the same day?
A: Friday 23rd January 2015 - the day both Men’s and Women’s Welsh Colleges Football teams defeated the junior Soceroos!
Representing Welsh Colleges at U19 level, both teams exceeded expectations, beating the strong Aussie Schools touring teams on their three-week tour of Britain and Ireland.

Over the next three months, students at Gower College Swansea will get to work alongside three newly appointed artists-in-residence.
In partnership with Mission Gallery, the college will host the artists at the Llwyn y Bryn campus from early March.

Welsh writers inspire students
A Level English students at Gower College Swansea have attended a special workshop with inspiring Welsh writers.
The event, held at the Dylan Thomas Centre, was part of the college’s wider Mis Cwl Cymru campaign and was intended to encourage students to use Wales and Welsh culture as inspiration for their writing.

A Professional Cookery student from Gower College Swansea scooped a top prize at the recent CogUrdd competition held at Ysgol Gyfun Bryn Tawe.
Jacqueline Morgan, who is a Level 3 student at the Tycoch campus, took first prize in the 19-25 category and will now go on to compete in the National Urdd Eisteddfod in Caerphilly in May.
The aim of the competition was to create a main course suitable for the Urdd Chief Executive that included at least two Welsh ingredients. Jacqui's recipe was Welsh lamb with honey and Penderyn sauce.

The students are responding to a recent appeal for funds from the Community Horse and Pony Scheme - or CHAPS - which provides rehabilitation through the therapeutic use of horses in the Swansea area.

Motivational workshops impact on staff and students
A series of motivational and thought-provoking workshops with guest speaker Jamie Denyer have made a huge impression on students and staff at Gower College Swansea
The workshops aimed to promote positive thoughts and behaviour while encouraging young people to think about the consequences of their actions. One, entitled One Punch Can Kill, focused on the tragic death of Jamie's 19-year old nephew.
Thanks to backing from the Innovation Fund, the workshops were set up for selected students across the college to examine motivation and positive character building techniques.

Project gets students thinking about money and health
A Level Health and Social Care students from Gower College Swansea recently held a special enterprise / health promotion event at the Gorseinon campus.
Working in groups, they were awarded a £200 grant each from Lloyds Banking Group’s Money for Life Project to organise a campaign called 'For Students By Students.’
This was a fun and creative way for students to share their money management skills while learning about the factors that affect our health and well-being.
