This week, each campus has celebrated Shwmae Day in style!

Biscuits, stickers, ‘selfies’ with our orange Welsh badge, resources for staff, and more important than anything - meeting and greeting in Welsh with people across the College. Over the last five days, we have greeted thousands of learners with a friendly ‘Shwmae’!

Adult Learners’ Week is the biggest celebration of learning in Wales, coordinated by the Learning and Work Institute in partnership with the Welsh Government. It aims to inspire adults to discover a passion for learning and skills development and show them that it’s never too late to start learning.

Opening up global opportunities

Opening up global opportunities

The International Office has received excellent news that its application to Welsh Government’s Taith Programme was successful.

The bid, which is worth just under £300,000, includes learning exchanges to Portugal, France, China, Canada, and - for the first time - funding for an exchange from our partners in Chongqing, China to bring their students to us. In addition to these, it includes staff preparatory visits to the United States, the Netherlands and Vietnam in order to develop new partnerships, whilst invigorating existing ones.

Music students perform at Mumbles festival

A Level Music students from Gower College Swansea took to the stage as part of the recent Mumbles Festival of Music and the Arts.

Their Rising Stars recital, which took place at the beautiful All Saint’s Church at Oystermouth, saw solo performances of a selection of pieces including Leonard Bernstein’s Maria, Gilbert and Sullivan’s Poor Wand’ring One, and Mozart’s Deh Vieni, non Tardar.

Important update: Monday 19 September

Following the sad death of our Queen and the announcement that there will be a public bank holiday for her funeral, we confirm that the College will be closed next Monday 19 September.

All campuses will remain closed and there will be no teaching.

EMA payments will not be affected for this day.

City & Guilds Foundation and Gower College Swansea launch innovative £100k project to support at risk young people into secure employment

The City & Guilds Foundation and Gower College Swansea have entered into a new strategic partnership to support learners at risk of dropping out of education, overcome barriers and find positive ways to gain skills and enduring work.

The funding will put up to 200 young people through a Transition & Engagement support programme, designed to raise aspirations and help disadvantaged and disengaged learners to develop and enhance existing skills to prepare them for the world of work.

This year, Gower College Swansea held a Welcome Day for Welsh-speaking young people who are joining us in September.  The aim of the day was to help new students become familiar with the campus, meet other Welsh speaking applicants, meet Welsh speaking staff, and learn about the Welsh language opportunities at College.

Championing careers in the creative industries

Gower College Swansea is proud to be a part of the Creative Industries Employer Board.

Formed in 2021 and made up of over 30 employers, the Board looks to nurture talent, identify opportunities for young people, provide coaching and mentoring, and celebrate achievement.

“It’s really important to remember that every sector needs people with creative skills,” says Chair Rachael Wheatley, who is the founder of Waters Creative, an agency specialising in graphic and web design, branding and marketing.
