Top drama school offers for Acting Company students
Students on Gower College Swansea’s Acting Company course are celebrating offers to some of the UK’s top specialist drama schools.
Among them are Annalise Williamson and Ethan Thomas, who look set to have the enviable task of choosing which prestigious school to progress to.
Annalise has been recalled to every drama school she has applied for, including the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre school.
American university offer for Bethany
An A Level student from Gower College Swansea has been offered a place at a prestigious US university.
Bethany Wisdom, who is studying A Levels in History, English Literature and French and following the College’s HE+ programme, has been offered a place to study liberal arts at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania.
Higher Education students visit New York
Students from the Foundation Degree in Events Management and Foundation Degree in Sport Development and Management visited New York in February this year.
The College students had four great days in the city, with highlights including visiting the Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden, and seeing a live basketball game at the Barclays Centre.
“The aim of the trip was to provide a great experience and give insight into sport and facility management from an international perspective,” says James Prosser, Curriculum Leader for Sports.

College welcomes guest from the Holocaust Educational Trust
A group of A2 History learners recently heard testimony from Holocaust survivor Eva Clarke BEM as part of a visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET).
They also took part in a Q&A session to enable them to better understand the nature of the Holocaust and to explore its lessons in more depth. The visit was part of the HET’s extensive all year round Outreach Programme, which is available to schools across the UK.

Biology Olympiad success for students
A group of AS students from Gower College Swansea took part in the recent British Biology Olympiad (BBO).
The students achieved great results, with one - Rebecca Thompson - attaining a Silver medal and another - Edan Reid - achieving Bronze.
Also competing were Kristy Pen, Joel Asigri, Katie Broome, Lanxin Xu, Lewis Crane, Angie Chong, Anisah Uddin, and Marvel Biju.
Media medal haul for Gower College Swansea
Seven Gower College Swansea students have medalled in the Media and Creative category of Skills Competition Wales.
Congratulations to Pariyah, a band consisting of Jasmin Eagles, Dylan Hodges, Alexa Jones-Young, Matthew Thirwell and Eleri Van Block in the Popular Music competition; Leah Jones in the Visual Merchandising competition and Wiktoria Nebka in the Fashion Design and Technology competition.

12 Gower College Swansea students heading to Oxbridge
Twelve A Level students from Gower College Swansea have been offered places to study at Oxford or Cambridge University in 2020.
These students are all following the Oxbridge Programme at the Gorseinon Campus, which aims to provide the best possible preparation for students aiming to progress to Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities.

Gower College Swansea welcomes Lord Mayor
A group of Independent Living Skills (ILS) students had a Q&A session with the Lord Mayor of Swansea, Cllr Peter Black, on Wednesday 5 February.
The Lord Mayor discussed his role with the enthusiastic learners, including his day to day tasks and his personal highlights, such as awarding Alun Wyn Jones with the Freedom of the City and welcoming the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Mumbles the previous day.

College celebrates second Apprenticeship Awards
Gower College Swansea has held a special awards ceremony for apprentices and employers.
The event, hosted by BBC Wales Scrum V Live’s Ross Harries, was held to honour the outstanding commitment and dedication of the ‘best of the best’.
Among the award winners were learners who have completed apprenticeships in a range of disciplines from Level 2 right through to Level 5. Indeed, one of the evening’s winners – Cory Allen – is the first learner to begin a degree apprenticeship at the College.
