Students rise to Chemistry Olympiad challenge

A Level Chemistry students at Gower College Swansea have performed exceptionally well at this year’s Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad.

The annual event is open to second year A Level students who are expected to achieve grades of A or A*in their exams, and is a challenging exercise that truly stretches the most committed young chemists.

A fantastic weekend for college at AOC National Championships!

Gower College Swansea is celebrating after a fantastic weekend at the AoC National Championships in Newcastle. 

There were over 2000 students in attendance, with the Welsh team consisting of 180 (57 of these were from Gower College Swansea - the biggest representation from a Welsh college.)

New digital technology lab opens at Tycoch

Students at Gower College Swansea will benefit following the official launch of a brand new digital technology lab at the Tycoch campus.

The lab is the result of a very generous sponsorship package from Premier EDA Solutions, which includes a donation of around £500,000 of their sector-leading Altium Designer electronic design software.

Community focus for Bridge students

Vocational Studies students from the Bridge programme at Gower College Swansea have been asked to take part in a focus group session about the community of Townhill.

They were recently visited by former students Curtis Cana and Ashlee Wilde, who delivered the session as part of their degree course in Youth and Community Work at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Curtis and Ashlee have conducted a profile on Townhill and wanted to interview college students about their experiences of living there and in similar areas of Swansea.

Level 2 Make-up Student Kaitlyn for Salon Cymru

Congrats to Kaitlyn for Salon Cymru success

Beauty student Kaitlyn Hole, who is studying the part time Certificate in Cosmetic Make Up course at the Broadway Centre, has taken second place at the annual Salon Cymru competition (Level 2 Make Up category.)

"I'm delighted with this result and really pleased for Kaitlyn," says lecturer Cathy Mitchell. "All the students who participated in the competition were amazing - both in terms of their hard work leading up to the event and the excellent standard of work they produced on the day."

States trip for A Level students

A Level Geography, Politics and World Development students from Gower College Swansea recently visited the USA, taking in stops at the United Nations, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and the 911 memorial museum.

The geographers were able to examine the sustainability of New York City, including a look at an 'urban farm' and the High Line park regeneration.

Meanwhile, the politics and world development students travelled to Washington to visit the Capitol Buildings, the National Archives, the Lincoln Memorial and the White House.

Digital Technology students win at EESW!

A team of Digital Technology students from Gower College Swansea have performed exceptionally well at the recent Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW) finals at Swansea University Bay Campus - winning the 'Best College in Wales' category.

The winning students - Cody Wilks, Sara Vonk, David Osbourne and Kaleb Thomas - worked alongside Tongfang Global (THTF) for several months to develop their prototype ahead of the event.

A 17-year old from Gower College Swansea has won Gold in the electronics final of a national skills competition.

Skills Competition Wales is a Welsh Government-backed series of events designed to celebrate vocational skills and create a highly skilled Welsh workforce for the future.

Economics students take top prizes

A team of A Level Economics students from Gower College Swansea recently competed in a OSTC Wales Trading Competition and took the top honours in two separate categories.

Callum Thomas won first prize in the individual trading competition and, alongside team mates Emily Griffiths and Brett Lewis, took the overall team competition title too.
