Open evening, taster workshops and exhibition @ Llwyn y Bryn campus
4 December 1.30pm – 7.30pm

Taster workshops available in glass, print making, ceramics, stitch, animation, photography, wire sculpture and printing on ceramics.

Tour the studios, find out about our courses and view artwork produced by current students.

Workshops will run for one hour, starting at 1.30pm until 5.30pm. Schools can book these in advance or it will be first come first served on the day.

Double triumph for Netball Academy

It’s been a busy week for Gower College Swansea’s Netball Academy as they have won not one but two major Welsh tournaments.

The team took the title at the recent Welsh Colleges and Urdd tournaments, making them the double Welsh champions.

“This is an amazing achievement and we are all absolutely delighted,” says Coach Sarah Lewis. “The girls have been working exceptionally hard towards this success, juggling netball training with their academic studies, and these results are a real testament to their dedication."

Certificates represent skills development for learners

Staff at a local care home have received certificates from Gower College Swansea in recognition of their skills development in Catering and Cleaning and Support Services.

Members of the catering and housekeeping teams at Awel Y Mor Care Home in Gorseinon have been working towards gaining these qualifications over the past 18 months.

Enterprise team present to city's Cabinet

The team behind an innovative entrepreneurial project was recently invited to the Council Chamber to present to the Cabinet of the City and County of Swansea.

Primary to Professional (P2P), which is led by Gower College Swansea in collaboration with Swansea Council, the Welsh Government, primary and secondary schools, higher education providers, Tech Hub and other business partners, seeks to build the enterprise skills of young people by providing bespoke courses and kick-starting the careers of budding entrepreneurs.

The college is supporting Global Entrepreneurship Week UK with a programme of events which gives students the opportunity to rub shoulders with local business people and self-employed professionals.

Former student scoops National Theatre bursary

Former Gower College Swansea student Anna Jenkins has been awarded a prestigious bursary by the National Theatre.

The NT/Dingmans Stage Management Bursary is awarded every year to a newly graduated stage manager and recipients receive a paid placement at the National Theatre.

Performing Arts students join Festival of Remembrance

The City of Swansea Branch Royal British Legion has invited students from our BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts to be part of the Festival of Remembrance on 8 November at the newly refurbished Brangwyn Hall.

The students presented a devised piece inspired by their research into WW1 last November. They visited the battlefields of the Somme and attended the last post service at the Menin Gate in Ypres. It was a special trip for staff and students and has been much talked about since.

Dylan Thomas Prize-shortlisted writers visit college

A Level English students at the Gorseinon campus were delighted this week to meet up with two Dylan Thomas Prize-shortlisted writers.

"It was fantastic to welcome both Eimear McBride and Kseniya Melnik to the college where they spent an hour with the students talking about their work and the writing process," says lecturer Sally Llewellyn.

The Dylan Thomas Prize is a prestigious award open to published writers in the English language under the age of thirty. There is a £30,000 prize for the winner who will be announced on 6 November.

Geography students visit the Jurassic Coast

A Level Geography students recently enjoyed a two day residential field visit to the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

The World Heritage Site boasts some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the British Isles and forms the basis of many of the case studies needed for the A2 examination.

The trip included two nights in a cosy youth hostel at Swanage whilst studying the awe-inspiring landscapes of Chesil Beach, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Poole Harbour Spit and Bournemouth.
