Heledd has the recipe for success

Gower College Swansea Business student Heledd Hunt is busy juggling her Level 3 studies with running her own company.

Heledd started her business – Hels Bakes Cakes - in September 2022, catering for events such as birthday parties. As a fluent Welsh speaker and one of the College’s Welsh Ambassadors, Heledd was also recently asked to cater for Welsh Week events across the campus, where 250 of her delicious cupcakes were on the menu.

Young entrepreneur impresses business leaders

Gower College Swansea student William Evans is showing a real practical flair for entrepreneurship despite being just 16 years of age.

Two years ago Will, who is studying a BTEC Business course at the Gorseinon campus, started selling eggs from his family’s smallholding in the Gower. As the community was under lockdown at the time, Will took the initiative and offered a home delivery service which proved very popular with his customers who were looking to shop locally.

Introducing the Sketty Hall Business School Advisory Board – Shaping the Future

Sketty Hall Business School has announced the formation of its Advisory Board – key industry figures who will help shape the future of education and training across South Wales and beyond.

With the support of the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, Gower College Swansea has recently transformed the much loved Georgian building into a contemporary Business School.

College launches Lego Education Innovation Suite

The doors have officially opened at Gower College Swansea’s brand new Lego Education Innovation Suite.

The only educational suite of its kind in the local area, this facility will be used by students, school pupils and employers to enhance their digital skills using Lego.

Business students explore university options

A group of AS Business students had the opportunity to visit Falmouth University's recent Undergraduate Open Day to gain an insight into the business and entrepreneurship degree programmes offered.

While there, they were also able to meet a number of current students as well as lecturing staff.

The students also undertook various coasteering activities at Swanpool beach which truly pushed them out of their comfort zone but which proved a big hit!

ROC Midden College Erasmus+ visit

Gower College Swansea has welcomed four members of staff from the Dutch College of ROC Midden.

Hosted by the Business and Technology Learning Area from Tuesday 17 until Friday 20 April, their main focus was to see how the Welsh education system varies from the Dutch.

They observed classes from Levels 1-3 in business, economics, accounting, criminology and law, in both Gorseinon and Tycoch Campuses. They also saw how the staff here at the College motivate students to achieve their full potential.

Apprentice star wows at Swansea Bay business lunch

Attendees at Swansea Bay Business Club’s October lunch enjoyed a talk held by entrepreneur and winner of BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, Joseph Valente.

Joseph delighted the audience at the Marriott Hotel as he shared stories of his time on the hit TV show and working with business magnate, Lord Alan Sugar.

During the event, which was sponsored by GCS Training, guests were encouraged to ask Joseph questions about his career and business - Impra Gas - as they enjoyed a three course meal and networking opportunities with businesses from across Swansea Bay and beyond.

Enterprise Manager shortlisted for major award

Gower College Swansea’s Enterprise Education Manager Sue Poole has been shortlisted for a major award which recognises her expertise and enthusiastic approach to the national enterprise agenda.

Organised by the team behind the Great British Entrepreneur Awards and the publishers of Fresh Business Thinking, the Entrepreneur Wales Awards is the only awards ceremony to acknowledge the hard work and inspiring stories of Welsh entrepreneurs and businesses in Wales.
