Elizabeth (Lizzie) Roberts, Engineering Tutor/Assessor at Gower College Swansea and former HNC, HND and NVQ Level 4 student has scooped the Best Academic Industrial Collaboration Award from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as a result of her First Class Bachelors of Engineering degree dissertation project.
Engineering Technologies alum, Fleet Morgan, has been placed on a Degree Apprenticeship with company, MBDA Missile Systems.
Fleet is earning as he learns, spending four days with the company and one day at the University of Hertfordshire. Not only is he getting experience of different areas of the company and working with cutting edge technology, but MBDA Missile Systems are paying his tuition fees as well as a starting salary of £14,500 which could potentially increase by £4,000 every year that he is on the apprenticeship.
Two Tycoch-based Engineering Technology students have attended the 2017 IET South Wales Prestige Lecture and Dinner at the Liberty Stadium.
Evelyn O’Brien and Mateus Ligocki, who both study the BTEC Level 3 course at the Tycoch campus, were selected from over 50 full time students to attend this prestigious event, which was hosted by the IET Wales South West Local Network.
The guest speaker was Professor Julie Williams CBE, Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales, who spoke on the topic of "Science for Wales".
Representatives from the Royal Navy recently spent the day with Level 3 Pre-Apprenticeship / Engineering Technology students at Tycoch, helping to develop their communication skills in preparation for forthcoming interviews.
Following a prior visit the students made to HMS Richmond at Cardiff Bay, the Royal Navy's Careers team offered to visit the college and assist with the interview preparations which included providing feedback on CVs and practical interview skills.
