Student secures place at RADA Summer School

Megan Langford, a student at Gower College Swansea, has been successful in securing a highly sought-after place on the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art Summer School. Megan, who is 16 years old, is studying A Level Drama at the college. “I am really looking forward to the course, which is an intensive study of the work of Shakespeare, and to spending a week at RADA”, she said.

Winter Car Checks Raise Christmas Cheer for Maggie’s

Motor Vehicle Level 2 Welsh Baccalaureate students at Gower College Swansea have raised £167.30 for Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Swansea after carrying out winter car checks for staff in lieu of a donation.

Under the guidance of a lecturer, the car checks included an anti-freeze check and top-up, screen wash top-up, visual safety inspection of tyres, lights, brakes and an oil level check. Anti-freeze and screen wash was generously donated by Normag and VW Sinclair.

Acclaimed photographer meets students

Acclaimed photographer / artist Richard Billingham paid a visit to Gower College Swansea this week. The photographer, who first came to prominence with his 1996 book Ray's a Laugh, later won the Citigroup Photography Prize and was shortlisted for the 2001 Turner Prize.

During this visit to the Llwyn y Bryn campus, Richard spent time with students on a variety of art and media related courses.

Students welcome multimedia artist

Students at Llwyn y Bryn are looking forward to a visit from renowned multimedia artist and author Tracey Moberly.

Welsh-born Tracey, who is now based in London, will deliver a lecture on her work, methods and processes, followed by tutorials with students on the Art and Design BTEC Foundation Diploma course.

Known as a socio-political artist, Tracey graduated from the University of Wales, Newport with a First in Art and Design before building a career encompassing political activism, photography, textiles and mobile technology.
