College life is the way forward for Sophie
We recently caught up with Childhood Studies student, Sophie, who’s just a few months away from graduating from the College with a foundation degree.
With the lifelong aspiration of becoming a primary school teacher, Sophie’s insistence that she did not want to go to university could have prematurely ended that dream, until her Sixth Form had a visit from Gower College Swansea.

We recently caught up with current Education Learning and Development Foundation Degree student, Caroline, who has recently completed her second year of the course.
Having spent all working life in an educational setting, she gained her higher-level Teaching Assistant’s status in 2007 and has been in her current job for 15 years.

A Music lecturer from Gower College Swansea has been shortlisted for a prestigious Pearson Teacher of the Year Award.
Jonathan Rogers, who is Curriculum Leader for A Level Music at the Gorseinon Campus, is in the running for the title of FE Lecturer of the Year.

Continued progression for Charlotte
We recently caught up with former Criminal Justice student, Charlotte, who graduated from the College with a foundation degree in July 2020.
Having always been passionate about criminology, Charlotte decided to study the course at Gower College Swansea because of the extra support the College provides.

Digital learning platform launched
Gower College Swansea is delighted to launch OpenClass, a bespoke learning platform for the city’s Year 11 school pupils.
In response to the ongoing and ever-evolving situation with Covid-19, the College has been keen to develop a bespoke platform to help keep applicants on track with their learning.

On the evening of 13 April, the College was made aware of a number of threats made on social media which were directed towards our Tycoch campus.
The College immediately contacted South Wales Police and we have been working closely with their officers since to ensure the ongoing health and safety of everyone at the campus.
An individual student has now been identified and the matter will be dealt with in line with the College's disciplinary procedure.
We thank everyone for their patience and we hope this brings an end to this unfortunate matter.

Update from Principal, Mark Jones (25 March)
We are delighted to report that, from Monday 12 April, all students will be invited to return to College for face-to-face learning in very much the same way that we were able to operate in the first term (from September to early December).
The focus during these weeks will be on catching up on any outstanding work, including skills development and in preparing our students for their end of year assessments in whatever form has been agreed by the examination bodies.

St. David's Day
This year, with the majority of our learning community and staff working from home, we decided to celebrate St. David’s Day a little differently.
We launched the day with a What is Wales/Welshness to me? competition, inviting a variety of statements, photos, videos and pieces of work that represented Wales to some of our staff and students.
We received nearly 50 entries, from a variety of areas across the whole College, with many ESOL students taking part.
