Student’s surface pattern design shortlisted

A Gower College Swansea Foundation Degree Fashion and Textile Design student was recently shortlisted in the prestigious idott competition.

Sheeza Ayub’s work was one of over 1000 individual entries submitted to the competition from art and design students based in the UK and across Europe.

Festive penguins get a makeover

Staff and students at the Llwyn y Bryn campus were recently approached by the Cultural Services team at City and County of Swansea with a very special request - to redecorate and repaint the Waterfront Winterland Penguins for the children’s ice rink. 

Students experience a flavour of the textile world

A group of Art and Design students from Llwyn y Bryn were fortunate enough to recently visit the Melin Tregwynt woollen mill in a remote part of the Pembrokeshire coast. This visit was organised by Gower College Swansea's Bilingual Champion Anna Davies and Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle.

The mill has been in the family of Amanda and Eifion Griffiths since 1912 and it employs over 30 people.

Botanical garden inspire students and staff

Art and Design students at the Llwyn y Bryn campus recently visited the National Botanic Garden of Wales in Carmarthenshire to gather research and inspiration for their induction and first assignment based on ‘Natural Form’.

Armed with sketchbooks, pencils, paints and cameras, the students and staff visually recorded what they saw and these will be used for further development in specific design areas such as posters, logos, fine art prints, textiles, collage and sculpture.

Llwyn y Bryn welcomes back illustrators

Professional illustrators and former Llwyn y Bryn students Simon Williams and Jason Cardy dropped in recently to have a chat with the current Levels 1 and 2 Art and Design cohort.

Both Simon and Jason have worked professionally in the comic book industry for over ten years. Their portfolios include illustrations for Marvel Comics, CD and book covers and personal work for celebrities such as David Hasselhoff.

Simon and Jason spoke fondly of their time at the Llwyn y Bryn campus as "some of the best years of our lives."

Former student returns with sound advice

A former student of Gower College Swansea returned to the Llwyn y Bryn campus this week to impart some sound advice to those currently going through the university application process.

Bradley Evans completed a Level 2 Art and Design qualification and a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design at the campus. He was then accepted onto the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and is currently in his final year.
