Former student returns to head up College Oxbridge programme
A familiar face is set to return to Gower College Swansea.
Fiona Beresford, who studied A Level History, English and Maths at the Gorseinon campus, has been appointed as the College’s brand new Oxbridge/HE+ Coordinator.
After completing her A Levels in 2009, Fiona attended Churchill College, Cambridge where she achieved a First in History before beginning a teaching career.
Outstanding results for International A Level students
This year’s A2 class scooped amazing A Level results with an impressive 64% achieving A* or A grades.
Over 90% of these students have been accepted by Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge.
Our AS Level students had a lot to celebrate too, with ten students achieving either four or three A grades.
We would like to say a big well done to all of our students and wish each and every one of them success in their forthcoming studies.
Gower College Swansea A / AS Level results 2018
Students at Gower College Swansea are celebrating an overall A Level pass rate of 98%, with 1827 separate exam entries.
Of these passes, 83% were at the higher grades of A*- C, 58% were at grades A*- B and 28% were at grades A* - A – all strong percentage increases on our excellent 2017 results.
The overall pass rate at AS Level was 93%, with 69% of those passes being grades A - C and 48% being grades A - B – again, all strong percentage increases on 2017 results.
There were 2853 separate exam entries for AS.

GCSE results day marks the next chapter in a young adult’s life. Edging ever closer to the real world of higher education and employment, coming up with a plan for the future can seem like a seriously daunting task.
Some might decide on their A Level / vocational courses on a whim, without much (if any) thought. But it’s important to remember that those choices can influence your future. So, choose wisely!

Business students explore university options
A group of AS Business students had the opportunity to visit Falmouth University's recent Undergraduate Open Day to gain an insight into the business and entrepreneurship degree programmes offered.
While there, they were also able to meet a number of current students as well as lecturing staff.
The students also undertook various coasteering activities at Swanpool beach which truly pushed them out of their comfort zone but which proved a big hit!
All the world’s a stage for GCS students
Almost 30 students from Gower College Swansea have been offered places at some of the UK’s most prestigious drama colleges and universities.
“Our Performing Arts department has had the most amazing twelve months and these stories of successful progression are a wonderful way to end the academic year,” says Learning Area Manager Lucy Hartnoll.
BBC Radio 1’s Academy inspires local students
Students at Gower College Swansea’s Gorseinon Campus have had an early opportunity to take part in BBC Radio 1’s Academy 2018.
The Academy is coming to the Swansea Grand Theatre in May to give young people aged between 16-24 the tools, information and inspiration to succeed in a creative career.
Careers in engineering beckon for students
To tie in with the national 2018: Year of Engineering campaign, Gower College Swansea recently held a series of talks and interactive sessions for students wishing to carve a career in this innovative sector – with the focus on the exciting opportunities shortly arising on the doorstep!
Cambridge success!
Two of our Chinese students, Fuhao Song and Han Xuanyuan, have recently been accepted to study at the University of Cambridge.
These students achieved an amazing 7 A* grades between them.
Nursing and midwifery taster day
Following Gower College Swansea’s successful bid for Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol funding, students with an interest in studying nursing, midwifery or social work through the medium of Welsh were able to attend a taster day at Swansea University.
