Students support White Ribbon campaign

A group of Health and Social Care students from Gower College Swansea have been working hard to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues.

The Level 2 Diploma students were inspired to act following a recent tutorial session delivered by the local multi-agency domestic abuse ‘One Stop Shop.’

Following on from this tutorial, the students decided to support the White Ribbon Campaign, an initiative - devised by men – that is aimed at encouraging everyone to stand up to those who commit violence against women.

“The students are totally committed to supporting the White Ribbon Campaign and used their planning, creativity and team working skills to organise a ‘Hands Not For Hurting’ wall in the main reception area at the Tycoch campus,” says lecturer Tracey Caplin.

“The over-riding messages were that it’s unacceptable to hurt anybody and that we must all stand up to the people who hurt others. All staff and students were encouraged to come along and pledge their support, pick up a white ribbon and get more information. The event was really well attended and supported and the students did us proud!”
