Meddyg teulu blaenllaw yn dod adref i ysbrydoli cenhedlaeth newydd o feddygon

Daeth meddyg teulu mwyaf blaenllaw Prydain, Yr Athro Helen Stokes-Lampard, yn ôl adref i Abertawe yn ddiweddar ar gyfer taith frysiog ddau ddiwrnod. Yn ystod y daith, ymwelodd hi â’i hen ysgol a choleg lle cymerodd ei chamau cyntaf tuag at lwyddiant.

Roedd yr Athro Stokes-Lampard, Cadeirydd Coleg Brenhinol y Meddygon Teulu – y Coleg Brenhinol Meddygol mwyaf yn y DU sy’n cynrychioli 52,000 o feddygon teulu ar draws y DU – wedi cwrdd â phlant Blwyddyn 10 yn Ysgol Gyfun Pen-yr-heol a myfyrwyr sydd â diddordeb mewn astudio meddygaeth yng Ngholeg Gŵyr Abertawe yng Ngorseinon.

Top GP comes home to inspire a whole new generation of doctors

Britain’s top GP, Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, recently came home to Swansea for a whirlwind two-day trip during which she visited her old school and college where she took her first steps to success.

Prof Stokes-Lampard, Chair of the Royal College of GPs - the UK’s largest Medical Royal College representing 52,000 family doctors across the UK – met Year 10 children at Penyrheol Comprehensive School and students interested in studying medicine at Gower College Swansea in Gorseinon.

Golygydd Lancet yn ymweld â myfyrwyr Gorseinon

Roedd myfyrwyr sy’n bwriadu dilyn gyrfa ym maes meddygaeth/seiciatreg wedi cael cyfle yn ddiweddar i gwrdd ag un o ffigyrau blaenllaw y maes pan ymwelodd golygydd cyntaf The Lancet Psychiatry â Choleg Gŵyr Abertawe.

Roedd Niall Boyce wedi cwrdd â myfyrwyr ar gampws Gorseinon i siarad am feysydd sy’n datblygu yng ngwaith ymchwil iechyd meddwl.

Lancet editor visits Gorseinon students

Students planning a career in medicine/psychiatry got the chance to meet one of the leading figures in the field recently, when the founding editor of The Lancet Psychiatry visited Gower College Swansea.

Niall Boyce met students at the Gorseinon campus to talk about emerging areas of mental health research.

"Mental health research is in a very exciting phase right now, including some world-class work going on in Wales,” says Niall. “I hope some of the students at Gower College Swansea will consider careers in this area."

Myfyrwyr yn mentro i faes gofal iechyd diolch i brosiect e-fentora

Disgwylir y bydd grŵp o fyfyrwyr o Goleg Gŵyr Abertawe yn elwa ar brosiect e-fentora arloesol, a sefydlwyd gan Gronfa Mullany, yn benodol ar gyfer pobl ifanc sy’n bwriadu dilyn gyrfa ym maes gofal iechyd.

“Rydyn ni’n elusen addysgol sy’n gweithio i roi sylw i ddiffyg symudedd cymdeithasol mewn proffesiynau gofal iechyd,” dywedodd Mandy Westcott, Rheolwr Prosiect E-fentora Mullany. “Ein hamcan yw ysbrydoli a chefnogi pobl ifanc i gael gyrfa ym maes meddyginiaeth a phroffesiynau gofal iechyd cysylltiedig eraill.”

E-mentoring project helps students into healthcare

A group of students from Gower College Swansea are set to benefit from an innovative e-mentoring project, set up by The Mullany Fund, specifically for young people aspiring to careers in healthcare.

“We are an educational charity that works to address the lack of social mobility within the healthcare professions,” says Mandy Westcott, Mullany E-mentoring Project Manager. “Our objective is to inspire and support young people into careers in medicine and other related healthcare professions,”
