Myfyrwyr gwyddoniaeth yn ennill Gwobr Aur CREST

Mae dau grŵp o fyfyrwyr Gwyddoniaeth Safon Uwch o Goleg Gŵyr Abertawe wedi ennill y wobr lefel uchaf - Gwobr Aur CREST - gan Gymdeithas Wyddoniaeth Prydain am eu gwaith gyda chwmnïau lleol.

Roedd un tîm o fyfyrwyr wedi gweithio gyda Morlyn Llanw Bae Abertawe a chael y dasg o gynnwys deunyddiau wedi'u hailgylchu mewn dyluniad bio-floc gan sicrhau yr un pryd eu bod nhw'n llwyddo i gytrefu bywyd morol..

Roedd y tîm arall wedi cydweithio â Dŵr Cymru ar y dasg o ddylunio ac adeiladu model o rig dosio cemegol gyda rheolaeth awtomatig gyflawn.

Hairdressing opens up a world of opportunities for artistic director Casey

Hairdressing is more than just a nine to five job as Casey Coleman - artistic director at Ocean Hairdressing in Cardiff and former Gower College Swansea student - will tell you.

Casey demonstrates how the industry is much more about creativity with the opportunity for careers not only in salons, but within fashion styling and design, television and films. After working briefly in a salon, he went on to work in a call centre before returning to full time education at Gower College Swansea where his passion for hairdressing began.

Science students achieve prestigious Gold CREST Award

Two groups of A Level Science students from Gower College Swansea have received the highest level of award - the Gold CREST - from the British Science Association for their work with local companies.

One team of students worked with Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon and were given the task of incorporating recycled materials into a bio-block design while ensuring they were successful at colonising marine life.

The other team worked with Welsh Water and were tasked with designing and constructing a model of a chemical dosing rig with complete automatic control.

Hat trick for GCS students at Worldskills competition

Gower College Swansea students took the top three places at the recent Worldskills Industrial Electronics regional heat at the Tycoch campus.

In first place was Stefano Amoruso, followed by Matthew Sutch and Niko Leuchtenberg.

The students' results will now be scored against the other regions (including England and Ireland) and, if they make the top 12 in the country, they will represent Wales and the UK in the NEC national finals in November.

Myfyriwr peirianneg yn ennill gwobr gweithgynhyrchu

Mae myfyriwr Peirianneg Coleg Gŵyr Abertawe, Amadou Khan, wedi ennill gwobr yn ddiweddar yn nigwyddiad mawreddog Gwobrau Gweithgynhyrchu’r Dyfodol EEF yn Stadiwm Dinas Caerdydd.

Cipiodd Amadou y wobr Efydd yn y categori Llwybr at Brentisiaeth – Myfyriwr y Flwyddyn.

Roedd Amadou yn fyfyriwr Llwybr at Brentisiaeth yn ystod 2013/14. Roedd yn dangos brwdfrydedd mawr tuag at bob agwedd ar y rhaglen, gan gynnwys ei leoliad gwaith yn AAH Pharmaceuticals. Ar ôl cwblhau’r Llwybr at Brentisiaeth, symudodd ymlaen i ddilyn Diploma Estynedig Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg.

Engineering student collects manufacturing award

Gower College Swansea Engineering student Amadou Khan recently picked up an award at the prestigious EEF Future Manufacturing Awards at Cardiff City Stadium

Amadou took Bronze in the Pathway to Apprenticeship (PTA) Student of the Year category.

Amadou was a PTA student during 2013/14 and demonstrated an excellent attitude towards every aspect of the programme, including his work placement at AAH Pharmaceuticals. Upon completion of the PTA, he progressed onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering.

Y Coleg yn cynnal rowndiau terfynol rhanbarthol Peirianneg Fecanyddol

Mae Coleg Gŵyr Abertawe newydd gynnal rownd derfynol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru ar gyfer Peirianneg Fecanyddol (CAD).

Daeth myfyrwyr o bob cwr o Gymru i gampws Gorseinon ar 17 Mawrth, lle y cawson nhw dasgau ymarferol i'w cwblhau o dan lygad barcut panel o feirniaid o fyd addysg a diwydiant.

Roedd y gystadleuaeth wedi profi rhai o'r sgiliau sy'n hanfodol i fod yn ddylunydd CAD gan gynnwys modelu 3D, cynhyrchu cydosodiadau, cymhwyso defnyddiau a chreu lluniadau technegol 2D. Cafodd y myfyrwyr eu profi ar eu sgiliau TGCh, rhifedd a datrys problemau hefyd.

Myfyrwyr GCS yn gyntaf ac yn ail yn rownd derfynol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru

Mae myfyrwyr Peirianneg o Goleg Gŵyr Abertawe wedi dod yn gyntaf ac yn ail yn rownd derfynol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Electroneg Cymru Gyfan a gynhaliwyd yn ddiweddar.

Enillodd Niko Leuchtenberg a Matthew Sutch, sy'n astudio tuag at ennill Diploma Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg (Technoleg Ddigidol) ar gampws Tycoch, y gwobrau Aur ac Arian yn y digwyddiad a gynhaliwyd yng Ngholeg Cambria.

Roedd tair adran ar wahân yn y rownd derfynol - adeiladu cylched, prototeip o gylched ac arholiad theori - ac roedd rhaid i bob un o'r 15 cystadleuydd eu cwblhau o fewn amser penodedig.
